State Street Center

This project is located at State and Pine Streets. Tucked in behind Powning Park fronting Virginia Street, this soon-to-be office will serve as ofices and a retail front. At one time the project also included 11 luxury condominiums on the upper floor but that plan has since been scrapped for obvious reasons.

In fact this project, and Holcomb Place Townhomes, were amongst the last to get bank funding before the economy took a royal nose dive.

As of May 2009, the project is nearly complete, with most of the exterior work completed. The building was built out as spec, meaning they don't have any solid tenants yet.

3 buildings occupied the land previously; a wedding chapel, a brick building and an office building in back. Those have all been demolished, and the tentative map has been submitted. Slated to be 11 condos on the upper floor and retail on the lower floor.

I saw Craig Cunningham & Michael Dermody checking out this site and discussing a restaurant at this location. Locals know Craig as the current owner of the Washoe Grill on Fourth Street.

I notice a lot of work going on here; any update on whether they're sticking to the original plan with a mix of residential and commercial? If so, what does the residential look like?
