Freight House District - east downtown
The Freight House District is a year-round entertainment complex 'attached' to the Aces Ballpark in east downtown Reno. It routinely features concerts, festivals and other attractions throughout the year, both in conjunction with and independent of the the ball games. Each restaurant offers a full menu, with extensive dining options for lunch or dinner.
The sports bar, a full-service restaurant and bar located down the left-field line on the second level of Aces Ballpark, offers a full menu of appetizers and entrees, including Pan Seared Salmon, Blackened Skirt Steak, XXX Wings and the Black & Bleu Burger. The location of the bar allows Acers a chance to see the baseball game from their seat inside the bar or from a supplementary outdoor patio. A number of ballpark seats are located just below the sports bar, and these seats will be sold to groups or on an individual basis and include in-seat beverage service.

Duffy’s is an ale house that offers an extensive dining selection for lunch or dinner, including Ale Steamed Mussels, hand-crafted pizzas and a Single-Malt Butterscotch Crème Brulee. Duffy’s carries more than 50 beers on the menu.

The 250 Lounge is a restaurant and music venue, and features a Cajun-style menu including Crispy Fried Oysters, Spice Blackened Tuna and a Muffaletta Salad with a New Orleans olive mix. It's located on the upper level.

On the ground floor of the Freight House District is Arroyo Mexican Grill, a high-end Mexican restaurant with three locations currently in California. Arroyo Mexican Grill will feature more than 100 tequilas and patio seating for patrons to enjoy. Arroyo Mexican Grill is scheduled to open this May.
The Freight House District also features an outdoor plaza area, which includes a full-service bar. Acers can drink and dine outside on the furniture positioned beneath a large translucent roof structure. Customers can move freely between each establishment and the outdoor plaza once inside the complex.
The Freight House District is open year-round. When the Aces are playing a home game, a small cover charge will be taken to enter the Freight House District for patrons without an Aces game ticket. On those nights, anyone with a ticket to the game can enter the Freight House District free of charge, and patrons can freely alternate between the ballpark and Freight House District. Aces home games will be broadcast on the numerous television screens throughout the Freight House District.
Valet parking will be available nightly at the Freight House District.
To date, the Freight House District has hired nearly 200 year round employees, filling both full-time and part-time positions.
Excited? I'm ready for baseball!
UPDATE APRIL 8 2010: The Freight House District is officially open!
UPDATE 2009: The residential concept of this project is completely scrapped. All of the land that was to be a residential district was assembled for the Reno Aces ballpark instead. The Reno Aces ballpark now occupies the land that was to be the Freight House, however SK Baseball/Nevada Land II plan a massive expansion of the surrounding area to create a shopping district with the ballpark as the main anchor.
UPDATE AUGUST 2007: If I am not mistaken, in the August 30 City Council Meeting, the council is set to approve the sale of four parcels of land to Siena Communities who is also building a project at Thoma and Virginia St. Live/Work units are planeed as well as the restoration of the Freight House. And from some of the rumors I have been hearing come down the pipeline this is just the beginning for this area. Click here to read full article at RGJ

I saw a sign in from of this project and it looks like it could be really good for this part of the area. Do you know if it involves saving the larger Freight House building? It would be a shame if that building was demolished.

Yes, the Freight House is a protected historical structure and whatever the city does with it (or whomever they sell it to) must present plans that pass historical review.

A friend in the city told me that the Freight House project is dead. Just another example of how any old pipe dream can make the news in this town.

Chris you couldnt be more wrong. I just talked to the developer last week on this project, AND its being written into the ReTRAC Master Plan as well. Guess it goes to show you you shouldnt listen to every rumor you hear :)

acutally, chris is correct. siena communities let their option go on the freight house and let their money go down the drain (city insider mike, really did happen). they also aren't constructing thoma lofts.

Well, as I mentioned before, Im going off what the developer told me, and sent me updated pictures of Thoma lofts as well. I have insider contacts as well :) Also, the city would need to officially release Siena Communities from its Exclusive Negotiating Agreement for the Freight House, and that hasnt happened yet. So, until that happens, or until the developer, whom I would assume knows more than the City does about his own project, tells me the project is dead, well have to wait and see.

well... the developer of the thoma lofts and freight house have had the properties now for more than a year and a half and still....NO DIRT MOVED. doesn't take that long with the city of reno. so, they are NOT developing.

Wrong Redzone. They do NOT own the Freight House property, and I am not even sure the property has been transferred to the City of Reno from Union Pacific yet.

Looks like we're getting the Freight House project after all. Just in a much grander scale than we could have ever possibly imagined even just a few months back. Can't wait 'til groundbreaking on New Years Day for the new ballpark at the Freight House!

Just stopped by this area, looks like construction is well under way for phase 2. Just framework for now, but it's nice to see that tower rising and everything else falling into place.

We were recently at the Freight House district and loved the outdoor all season furniture they have. Does anyone know who the furniture is by or a contact to speak with?

Just saw they they're putting in bocce ball, sand volleyball, and shuffleboard, all overlooking the field. I'm curious, though... Any idea where it would go on the property?

The District is another major step in making downtown a true national player...great setup with the ballpark and the freedom of movement and choice of venues (more to come). A Grand Slam!!

When will we be able to log in to the spot that says we have a chance to win dinner for two at the freighthouse that is on the back of our tickets?

I noticed people having lunch today in the Arroyo Mexican Grille. Look for a grand opening announcement real soon now. Meanwhile, it looks like construction in the Slice of the Peak Pizza restaurant hasn't even begun yet.

Had lunch at Silver Peak south today, and asked about the new pizza location. Reply was projected opening was sometime in August. I have serious doubts how these baseball-centric food vendors will do in the off season, but I do hope Silver Peak goes through with the project. Lunch today (which was pizza) was very good, all complimented by the roof deck and the simply spectacular view.

Love 250 Lounge! Great place to hang out after work.

Is it my imagination or is the live music deafening? You can hear it from 3 blocks away. You can't talk to anyone on the 2nd floor without screaming in their ears. I think they need to take it down a few notches and make it more pleasant to just hang out with friends. If I want a deafening concert or music, I'll go to Knitting Factory or 210 North.
