La Famiglia
I've been to La Famiglia Restaurante 4 times now, and have not been disappointed yet; true, authentic Italian food, family owned and operated.
They recently moved to the State Street building, located off Virginia Street between State and Pine Streets. It's a newer, larger location yet still provides an intimate dining atmosphere. The previous location was a bit noisy and loud as everyone's conversations bounced off the walls of the small dining space.
La Famiglia is pricey but worth it. Between wine, appetizers and the main course, expect to pay at least $16 per person. The highest bill I had here was about $150 for 4 people.
Reservations is a must, unless you sit at the bar to eat.
Now to the food: some of the food I have sampled here thus far include Mushrooms ravioli - mushroom puree stuffed ravioli in a mushrooms reduction cream sauce, the Veal Milanese, Minestrone Soup, Rigatoni with Italian Sausage, and their infamous mango cheesecake. The food pretty much melts in your mouth.
If you are looking for a true Italian food experience downtown, no one does Italian like La Famiglia.
