Permit submitted for 8-story residential building - block of homes demolished on East 9th Street

by Mike Van Houten / Oct 13, 2020

A permit has been submitted for structural/foundation work of an eight story residential building downtown.

The permit reads:

COMMERCIAL NEW CONSTRUCTION. THIS APPLICATION IS FOR A FOUNDATION PERMIT FOR STRUCTURAL/FOUNDATION WORK UP TO AND INCLUDING TRANSFER SLAB AT LEVEL 3 OF 8-STORY RESIDENTIAL APARTMENT BUILDING. THE DEVELOPMENT CONSISTS OF 5 LEVELS OF R-2 WOOD-FRAMED TYPE IIIA CONSTRUCTION, BROKEN INTO TWO BUILDINGS, OVER 3 LEVELS(1 BELOW GRADE) OF S-2 CONCRETE TYPE 1A CONSTRUCTION. THE RESIDENTIAL AND PARKING PORTIONS BOTH CONTAIN LIMITED ASSEMBLY OCCUPANCIES. JOB VALUE NOTED IS FOR FOUNDATION SCOPE OF WORK.

This permit was originally submitted in July but required revisions.

Other permits for this project include:

Grading and Site Improvements - Which I don't believe have been completed yet.

Demo Permit - The block of homes to be demolished.

The lot is now vacant after a block of homes and businesses were demolished to make way for the project.

I include both before and after pics below of the demolition.

The lot is located between Evans and Record Streets, and 9th Street / the freeway.

Damn, I'll def miss Bibo. Went there a lot to study, hang out with friends, our French Club held our Café conversations there. I'm excited on the new development but I'll never the great memories I had on Bibo's on Record 😊
