Demolition permit for 250 Bell Street

by Mike Van Houten / Oct 2, 2023

What was once a hub of progressive renewable energy businesses and home to Cathexes will see its last days. A demo permit has been submitted by Jacobs Entertainment to demolish the building.

I believe this is where Jacobs wanted to build a parking garage, and his concept for workforce housing that he wanted the city to contribute tens of millions to, which never materialized. I wonder what the current plans for this area are?

I actually reported on this building's makeover over a decade ago, when it became a hub to some of the most progressively cool businesses in Reno, including Cathexes' office, REA250, SmartBrand, and a couple other renewable energy companies, all working together under the watchful eye of Don Clark. You can find that post here

I worked closely with SmartBrand for years as a web designer, and spent a fair bit of time in this building, so it does sting a bit, as I'm sure the news will hit others similarly, purely for sentimental reasons.

The permit reads

COMMERCIAL DEMOLITION - STRUCTURE. DEMOLISH BUILDING IN ITS ENTIRETY REMOVE SLAB AND FOOTINGS HAUL OFF ALL DEBRIS
