Various permits and tidbits

by Mike Van Houten / Feb 2, 2026

I used to include several permits and tidbits into one post, and now I am bringing that format back!

4 SEASON VIETNAMESE FUSION - 555 South Virginia - This soon-to-be-open restaurant has a fire system permit. It's been a long time coming for a new restaurant to occupy Finbomb's prior location, excited to see something fill this space.

LA ESQUINA BAR - 310 Spokane Street - You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on whether the Spice House closed permanently or not, I never stepped foot in the place and information is sparse online, but there is a sign permit for a new bar in that space, so it's either a replacement to the Spice House or an addition.

CRACKLES AND CRUMBS - 1533 South Virginia Street - This is for a new tenant in the South Virginia Plaza and is another fire system permit. I can't find any information online about the business, although several Crackle and Crumbs in other cities seem to be bakeries.

THE NOT-TOP-GOLF GSR DRIVING RANGE - There is a construction permit for the new proposed driving range facility at GSR. It sounds like it will be a really nice facility and a huge upgrade to what's there now, with the permit reading, "COMMERCIAL NEW CONSTRUCTION. SITE IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDED NEW 3 STORY, 90 BAY DRIVING RANGE GOLF FACILITY WITH SUPPORTING FOOD & BEVERAGE FACILITIES." - Yay, golfers rejoice.

DOWNTOWN RIVERBOAT PROJECT DEAD DEAD - In today's RAAB meeting, it was mentioned by DRP's Nathan Digangi that the Riverboat Project was being returned to its lender and most likely sold off. Boo.

TRUCKEE LANE BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS - Presumably part of the ReStore program, a permit has rolled in for 248 West 1st Street, the Truckee Lane building. The permit reads: EXTERIOR REMODEL. UPDATE EXTERIOR OF BUILDING, INCLUDES WINDOWS, DOORS, WALLS, & ELECTRICAL. This is good, as this is one of the more neglected buildings downtown. Let's hope Siegel Group goes beyond the $40,000 permit value and remodels the long-vacant residential units above the retail, in this building.

THE NEVADAN - 133 North Virginia Street - Also part of the ReStore program, a permit has been submitted to update the facade of this building. It's a $30,000 permit, so let's not expect a gigantic change here, but even a paint job would improvement.

REFORMER - 11 North Sierra Street - The old movie theater building was purcahsed by Living Stones Church, but is now being referred to (at least by the City) as the Reformer (not Pilates). It was mentioned in today's RAAB meeting that the project will include TWO restaurants, or a restaurant and cafe, day care center, coworking space, a wedding chapel, the mezzanine level will be remodeled, the building will include four larger retail spaces, and two of the movie theaters inside will be combined into a much larger open space. No idea what that larger space will be used for yet, but the more I hear about this project, the less bad it sounds. Even if I am not a churchy person. The church will comprise just one aspect of the overall project, with nine other businesses uses for the building.

YUZU SUSHI AND BAR - 440 North Virginia Street - It's been a long time coming, but Yuzu Sushi and Bar, who has completely remodeled the interior of their space on North Virginia Street downtown, should be opening soon. It was mentioned in today's RAAB meeting that they either got their certificate of occupancy or will be issued it very soon (I can't remember which, sorry it's been a long day)

DISCOLOGY - Discology will be moving into the old post office building at 50 South Virginia Street, on the ground-level floor. Exciting news for them!
