Reno, Nevada (July 8, 2024) — The City of Reno and Washoe County continue to seek public feedback on the Truckee River Vision Plan to improve the 18-mile stretch of the Truckee River Corridor between the Nevada state line and Sparks. On July 8,2024 the City began a final round of public outreach that lasts through July 28. During this time, the draft plan is posted on the City of Reno website and there is a new landing page with a survey and other project resources.

Additionally, the City invites members of the media and public to attend a community engagement open house on Thursday, July 11, 2024 to learn more about the draft plan for the Truckee.

The purpose of the Truckee River Vision Plan is to deliver a blueprint to transform the Truckee River into an amenity that current and future generations can use to recreate, engage and enjoy. The City began collecting feedback for the Truckee River in December 2023 through early 2024 via a public survey and a vision board. Based on the stakeholder and public feedback collected, Dig Studio, the consultant for the vision plan, has developed a draft vision plan to share with the public and get feedback from July 8-28.

From more restaurants, vendors and shops to more trails, river access and shade, residents are asked to provide feedback on what they would like to see along the Truckee River corridor.  The official campaign is called, ‘Speak Up-ee for the Truckee.’

In addition to this larger planning process, Dig assisted the City to identify immediate projects that could be funded through America Rescue Act Funding. These projects which were passed by City council include: new animal resistant trash cans and pet waste receptacles, paint refresh on railings, light poles, and bridges a long the river downtown, infrastructure improvements to West Street plaza with a River Ranger station and event programming for two summer seasons, design for a cantilever path behind the Automobile Museum, and design and physical improvements like lighting along Riverside Drive.

"The Truckee River is an economic asset for our City," said Bryan McArdle, Revitalization Manager of the City of Reno. "We live, recreate, dine, and relax along the river. That’s why we are excited to share this first draft plan, because this plan will impact how we use the river for generations to come."

You can view this document for the overall vision of the different areas highlighted for the plan. I also have the pages in my gallery below. There are a lot of great ideas here.

I look forward to seeing what ideas Dig has come up this Thursday!
