A permit has been submitted for a new 12-story student housing project on 15th Street.
This will be located on the corner of 15th Street and Virginia Street, across the street on Virginia Street from the E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center.
Interestingly, this permit was submitted before, but may have expired. Or it could be the property sold to new owners, I noticed a sale for the property on 4/7/2020, and the previous time I reported on this permit was July 2019. This could mean they are getting ready to break ground on the project since it has been resubmitted.
The permit reads:
COMMERCIAL NEW CONSTRUCTION. NEW 12 STORY STUDENT HOUSING - 9 STORY TYPE I-B RESIDENTIAL OVER 3 STORY TYPE I-B GARAGE
People question where these “new students” are coming from? They are already here. As the housing market tightens in the Truckee Meadows it is forcing students to move from apartments all over the city closer to campus. There are 21k students on campus and only 4K beds in the dorms. This is pure gold for developers. Especially THAT location.
