Is Ichiban, formerly in Harrah's which is now closed, making a return to downtown? This permit gives a clue.
The permit, which is still processing and in 'incomplete' mode, reads:
ICHIBAN IS A TEPPANYAKI RESTAURANT THAT WILL OCCUPY AN EXISTING ASIAN THEME RESTAURANT AT THE ELDORADO RENO RESORT CASINO IN RENO NEVADA. THE OVERALL COMBINED TENANT SPACE WAS ONCE A PARKING GARAGE CREATING A MULTI-LEVEL DINING ROOM. THE EXISTING FRONT OF HOUSE WILL REMODEL APPROXIMATELY 8,000 SQUARE FEET OF EXISTING SPACE THAT WILL INCLUDE NEW FLOORING, WALL COVERINGS, LIGHTING, DECORATIVE SCREENS, AND 12 SELF CONTAINED COOK TABLES. THE COOK TABLES COME TO THE SITE ALREADY ASSEMBLED WITH FINISHES WHICH MAKES THEM PLUG AND PLAY. ALSO INCLUDED IN THE FRONT OF HOUSE IS A NEW CASHIER STATION, HOST STAND, BAR, AND SUSHI BAR. THE INCORPORATION OF A NEW 2 STALL MEN AND WOMEN RESTROOM WITH TWO 'COMMUNAL' SINKS IS ALSO INCORPORATED. IN ADDITION THE MAJORITY OF THE EXISTING DECORATIVE CEILING IS TO REMAIN AS WELL AS THE EXISTING MILLWORK WALLS. THE EXISTING MILLWORK WALLS WILL INCORPORATE NEW ART THAT IS ILLUSTRATED IN THIS PACKAGE. ALSO, THE MAIN ENTRY FROM THE CASINO IS RELOCATED TO A SIDE ENTRY WHILE EXISTING STAIRS THAT SERVED THE ORIGINAL MAIN ENTRY WILL BE IN-FILLED TO CREATE WAITING SEATING. THE BACK OF HOUSE IS APPROXIMATELY 3,000 SQUARE FEET WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE EQUIPMENT TO REMAIN. THERE IS ALSO A RECONFIGURATION AND SOME INCLUSION OF SOME NEW BACK OF HOUSE EQUIPMENT THAT IS ILLUSTRATED IN THE KITCHEN DRAWING PORTION OF THIS SET. ALSO INCLUDED IN THE BACK OF HOUSE IS A SINGLE STALL EMPLOYEE RESTROOM TO BE LOCATED AS SHOWN.
I don't know if it's the same Ichiban that was in Harrah's, but it would be fairly bad taste to open a restaurant with the same name as one that just closed. Let's cross our fingers and hope it's the same Ichiban we know and love, from Harrah's!
