Electric Pickle has submitted a pre-planning application for a minor conditional use permit for their proposed complex at RED. RED (Reno Experience DIstrict) is the large mixed-use project located on the corner of Plumb and Virginia, across the street from Reno Public Market.
The Electric Pickle facility will be located just east of the Element Hotel and will utilize vacant commercial space within the hotel for the restaurant portion of the project.
The Electric Pickle, which will be considered a flagship property for the company, will utilize the Element Hotel's existing vacant commercial space on the east side of the building for their restaurant space. This space is located underneath the rooftop pool of Element Hotel, for context. It will have an outdoor dining area as well tying into the rest of the complex.
The rest of the complex will feature a new pickleball building containing five indoor pickleball courts and a pro shop, four new outdoor pickleball courts, two new bocce ball courts, a lawn area with outdoor stage, a new raised outdoor patio with bar, and will be heavily landscaped much like the RED development itself is.
In the planning documents, Electric Pickle is described as "a flagship destination which sets the stage for a national expansion, blending the thrill of pickleball with globally inspired cuisine, craft cocktails, and vibrant social experiences. In Reno the venue features nine pickleball courts, a indoor-outdoor restaurant with bold menu offerings, and a variety of activities like golf simulators, bocce, live music, and cornhole. Memberships, court reservations, and event bookings are available to enhance every visit. The restaurant and outdoor bar propose to serve a full line of alcoholic beverages to Electric Pickle customers. Alcohol will be stored behind the service counters and in the alcohol storage area in the back of the restaurant, locations which are not publicly assessable. Live entertainment will be provided within the restaurant and the outdoor stage.
You can find all the planning documents here. I also included detailed images of the plans below.
Representatives for RED were at the March 3 Reno Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board meeting presenting a two-pronged plan for RED which included a massive residential expansion consisting of four additional residential buildings, along with additional commercial/retail, and Electric Pickle was part of that discussion. Everything was preliminary at that point, and didn't include any financing gap analysis at the time.
You can find the specific discussion about Retail at RED by clicking this link, I have the timestamp already cued up for you.
RED was proposing TIF financing for both the retail outpost (Electric Pickle), renovation or buildout of the remaining empty retail shells. In that discussion, representative ofr RED Garrett Gordon was very direct and specific that without TIF financing, the Electric Pickle project wouldn't be financially feasible to build out.
