Legends at Sparks Marina

Legends at Sparks Marina

Legends at Sparks Marina when completed will be one of the major shopping meccas in the Reno/Sparks area. Legends at Sparks Marina will include socres of shops, an indoor arena, a hotel/casino, and a waterfront promenade. Legends at Sparks Marina is now actively under construction over by the Vista turn off, between Vista Blvd and the Sparks Marina. My astute readers have been very good about posting new tenants being announced in the comments section below, so take a read to see everything that's going in! The Tenant List on Red Development's site seems to be outdated compared to the last two set of tenants announced.

Project is approved and mass grading as well demo of the old Outlet Mall is proceding. A large (12 acre, 1000 room???) hotel casino addition will start the approval process this month. Overall project has 1.35 million square feet and encompasses nearly 145 acres and will be a massive entertainment/retail addition to the region.

There is also word that a $20 Million baseball park is going in to house a triple A baseball team.

The word arrives April 20th. Red Developments ground breaking anouncement is scheduled, where all the future tenants will be discussed. Hopefully that includes a Tripel A ballpark and team.

Please be advised that WE are The Hot Hog Hall Of Fame, not that liar, thief and con man Steve Schussler. We've been doing this since 1976 and he is attempting to steal our concept, good name, business name, URL's, etc. We made the mistake of telling him about us at a meeting we had with him at the Grand Opening of the Fisherman's Wharf (San Francisco) Rainforest Cafe in 2000. We have also been talking to someone within his organization who tells us that he may not actually own another one of the concepts he's currently touting. You can read all about it (we've already served him 2 Cease & Desist demand letters) on our web site: www.thehotdoghalloffame.com Go to "About Us" and select the hyperlink in the body of the text portion of that page for "Hot Dogs In A Cold World". Just a couple updates for those interested (these were reported in various media outlets a while back). Newly announced tenants include Adidas, Forever 21, Lane Bryant, Cantina Corona, SegaWorld, Harry & David, Hash House a Go-Go, BCBG Max Azria/BCBGirls & Target. Accoring to the Sparks Tribune the Target will be 175k square feet which is roughly 25k square feet bigger than Reno's Target Greatland and *should* make it a SuperTarget according to Wikipedia. Either way, I love me some "Tar-shey". Harry & David and Adidas are welcome additions as well IMO.

More Legends news/rumors. According to this site: http://www.rercinc.com/recentprojs/recentprojs.htm we may be getting a Fry's Electronics and Nordstrom Rack!!! I really hope these stores build here as they probably account for 75% of my trips into Sacramento. No more dealing w/ I-80...yippee! Now all I want to see is a Cheesecake Factory, but they only build in areas w/ an average population of 250k and income of $50k+ within a 5 mile radius.

Posted by: Slapdad - 11/7/2007 6:30:08 PM
A Nordstrom's Rack would be great, as would a Cheesecake Factory, but Fry's Electronics has got to be the biggest pit I've ever seen....at least the store in Sacramento is. It's dirty, their cd's are always a mess and the selection is terrible...I would take Best Buy over Fry's. But competition is always good I suppose. By the way, Nordstrom's already has property picked out and ready to go in South Reno and will break ground as soon as the area hits critical mass.

You NEED to check out the new Frys in Roseville. Completely different experience. Their new(er) stores are very nice. FWIW, they're owned by Kroger who also owns Smiths, so judging all Fry's stores by the one in Sac would be like the judging all Smith's stores by the one in Sparks. In my experience Fry's also has better customer service than either Best Buy or Circuit City. Don't even get me started on the Geek Squad and what I've went through w/ them. Fry's in Roseville for reference: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bryce_edwards/540234018/

The Fry's in W. Sacramento is the only one I've been to in that area, but I've been to several throughout Texas as well and found that all but one (a brand new store) were very similar to the one I've been to in Sacramento. That being said, I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the management and staff at each store....a new store at Legends will probably be in much better shape than one in West Sac.

Actually, you're thinking Fry's Food and Drug, which is owned by Kroger. Fry's Electronics was started by the heirs of the person who originally created Fry's Food and Drug, but is otherwise a completely unrelated company.

I wouldn't jump the gun too much -- the RED website still shows a very limited list of tenants. The real estate website mentioned said "could include tenants such as . . .". It also mentioned the baseball park and we know that didn't end up there.

Posted by: Cmoon - 11/14/2007 8:43:48 PM
From a source close to the project, the current tenant list is as follows: Apparel: Brooks Brothers BCBG Max Azria BCB Girls Forever 21 Lane Bryant Entertainment: Legends Casino Resort & Spa Pin-Up Bowl T-Rex Café: A Prehistoric Adventure Dave and Busters Stanford & Sons Comedy Club Restaurants: Corona Cantina Saddle Ranch Chop House Yard House America's Roadhouse - Bikers, Blues and Barbecues Hot Dog Hall of Fame Hash House a Go Go Chili's Grill and Bar SegaWorld Sports Grille Jazz-A Louisiana Kitchen Shoes: Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse Adidas Accessories: Sunglass Station Harry and David Camping World Retailers: Scheels All Sports Target Greatland Super Wal-Mart

and an IMAX theater. http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071228/NEWS/712280456/1002

That is so awesome we are getting an IMAX.

Posted by: Justin - 2/27/2008 3:06:27 PM
More tenants announced today: Saks Off Fifth, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Anne Klein, Nine West, Jones New York, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, the Gap, Best Buy, Blowfish Sushi, the Olive Garden, Hofbräuhaus, Grimaldi’s Coal Brick-Over Pizzeria, AT&T, The Big Bang Dueling Piano Bar, Deegie's Carma, Easy Spirit, Dickinson Theaters + IMAX, Tuscanos Brazilian Grill, Mountain Family RV & a 7500 square foot Indoor Arena which will possibly house a Football League of some sort. This is sounding more and more like a first-class shopping, dining & entertainment destination.

I agree Justin, I just posted the same tenants on a breaking news post. The guts of the mall have changed significantly though....the older renderings show several branches breaking off from the main shopping strip, with meandering streams and bridges etc, and the new rendering looks much more standard, with one main shopping strip, no streams etc.

I hope the post above is not serious about a Super Wal-Mart. I moved here from Atlanta, and the first things I noticed were: 1. There are way more Wal Mart stores in Reno and Sparks than in any other area I've ever lived in. 2. Every store here is duplicated over and over and over and over and over... It's very rare to see something original or unique. Obviously, Legends is going to be a great development. I am excited to see things like T-Rex and Dave and Busters, but I think adding a Wal Mart makes the whole thing look "cheap", which is I think part of Reno's image problem to visitors. People leave here thinking it's little more than an overgrown small town. In place of Wal Mart, I really wish a deal with Fry's could be made. Especially with the recent meltdown of the nation's CompUSA stores.

Yes I was serious in the November post about the Super Wal-Mart. A Super Wal-Mart has been shown as the tenant for the northeast anchor pad since 2006. But during the February 21st, 2008 Planning Commission meeting, it was announced that Wal-Mart has withdrawn and that Target will move from the southeast anchor pad and will now occupy the northeast anchor site along with Staples, and that Best Buy will take the west end of the southeast anchor pad. Also, I think it is unlikely that Fry’s will come with Best Buy already onboard.

I am a big fan of the Legends project as it stands but I hope that the rumors of a Super Walmart and/or Sam's Club don't happen. We have enough Walmart's in town and while the closest one to Legends is all the way out in Spanish Springs, putting one in Legends will be a nightmare. I guess I should feel the same way about possibly getting a Target Greatland (since I don't think we have a chance at getting a Super Target) but the Target on Prater is small and old and we could use a new store in Sparks. My biggest concern is the announcement that Mountain Family RV is joining the list of tenants. I'm assuming that this means once corner of the parking lot will end up being an RV sales lot. This might be OK if they put it on the corner of Lincoln and Marina Gardens next to the RV park, but I don't think that piece of land isn't part of the Legends property. Oh and I noticed that the Yardhouse has been removed from list of tenants. There goes my 100+ beers on tap. :-(

The development handbook does allow for one motorcoach dealer in the far northwest corner of the site. The loction will be directly south of the existing RV park. A Camping World was originally announced but will be replaced by Mountain Family RV.

When I drove by Legends this morning, I noticed some progress has been made in the "not Scheels" areas of the project. First, it looks like most of the steel is up for the mall building that wraps the north-east corner of the Sheels building. Second, there is now a work trailer at the edge of the site at the north-west corner of Sparks and Lincoln (Target?).

Posted by: Cmoon - 3/18/2008 8:51:38 AM
UPDATE: Target closed on their parcel on 3-14-08 and started excavation for foundations on 3-17-08. They will be constructing a 144,100 square-foot Target Greatland.

Sounds great! Just moved here from California and its cheaper out here. So far so good. I've been to the one in Yakima and this one looks like its going to be far more better and beautiful.

There's a new website up on the project: http://www.experiencelegends.com/

It's a shame we lost the baseball park. Talk about the perfect spot. I don't plan on going into Reno for games (the area is terrible). It's gonna fail.

Posted by: Chris - 7/2/2008 9:09:42 PM
There is a person who keeps putting out money to put a AA hockey team in the area, the only thing is that he is looking for an areana. I think that might be the new home (search ehcl.com and it tells you about how they extended his franchise for another year)

Posted by: John - 7/13/2008 12:53:10 PM
I've heard that they could build an arena that hopefully would be home to a AA hockey team. Only thing is with a NBA D league team and a AAA baseball team I seriously don't see the Reno - Sparks area being able to support all 3. Which makes me sad as hockey rules. I see the basketball and base maybe lasting 2-3 yrs before they are gone.. Sorry

Posted by: Justin - 7/14/2008 8:04:20 AM
What would one have to do with the other? For the most part, each would attract a different type of fan IMO. Besides, the Legends project is designed to attract tourists who want to eat, shop, be entertained and have lodging all in one spot, so given the tourist element, I could see it working out okay.

Posted by: matlo - 7/14/2008 12:41:08 PM
Excuse me? Of course we can support it. Reno and Sparks is close to 500,000 people! That's plenty to support this kind of stuff
