3/21/07 - SERIOUS CONSTRUCTION HAPPENING IN BUILDING ON CORNER OF SIERRA, 2nd ST - As I was walking my dogs downtown today, I heard several simultaneous power tool sounds emitted from the corner building where the black-painted boards cover up all the windows, next to the West 2nd Street Bar. Anyone know what's going in here?

A few months ago there was some activity going on in the building - before it all seemed to grind to a halt - and I asked one of the workers what was planned. He said it was going to be a Southwestern/Mexican restaurant. Could still be?

Simultaneous power tools? It MUST be big then ; ) If you are talking about the brick building that once housed Parkers Western Wear, I think that building is a great location. Its a unique building and would be a great place for restaurants and bars. Now, the real Coup détat would be for someone to take the El Cortez and turn it into a funky, cool...but modern hotel. If anyone has been to the Triton Hotel in San Francisco, you know what Im talking about. http://www.hoteltriton.com/index.html

the El Cortez reminds me of the Hotel De Anza in downtown San Jose. They fixed that old place up nicely! http://www.hoteldeanza.com/entertainment.asp
