POLL When Were You Downtown Last and Why
Post your commentsPosted by: Justin - 3/25/2008 6:25:24 AM
I typically make it downtown 1-2x a month since I don't live or work in the area. One of my good friends just moved downtown though, so I have a feeling I'll be down there more often. :) If downtown gets some more well-known retail and dining choices (already GREATLY improved compared to 5 years ago), I could see more locals coming down. The Urban Market would also likely be a draw for some people.

I am amazed by how many locals really are clueless about how awesome downtown is. They will make all these negative comments but don't know the first thing about all the redevelopment. Living down here is a blast, enjoying the river, walking everywhere, biking, eating out, arts, LIFE!!! In a few years they'll be sayingm "I wish I would have"!!!!

My husband and I often walk along the river from McKinley School, check out the art at the Truckee Gallery and on to Dreamers to get coffee. We saunter up to First St., over to Silver Peak, check out the Antique Store, wonder about the boarded up wannabe restaurant on the corner of Sierra and Second, check to see if any progress has been made on West St. and walk back to McKinley. We love the changes to downtown, wish that progess was a bit quicker, and avoid Virginia St. past First St. because it is tawdry in comparison to the river area.

My friend Ian took his acoustic guitar down to the river yesterday, and five of my friends hung out and listened to him play.

The last time I was downtown was on Easter Sunday. I took my dog for a walk from downtown to Idlewild and back.

Work downtown, I'm there Mon-Fri, so I take advantage of already being there to take a stroll, get a coffee, or check out some art. Otherwise, maybe 4-5 times a year after hours to go to a bar, concert, movie, or whatever.

I was downtown last night talking shop with web designers at Imperial Bar. Saturday night I went to the new Lincoln Lodge and enjoyed a fine belgian beer, Yum. I work and live downtown and absolutely love it. My quality of life continues to get better, since I start my car once a week lately. check out the Reno Passport blog: http://renopassport.blogspot.com I have posted slideshows of the new bar the Waterfall, and the Gogol Bordello concert March 15. Keep up the good work Mike!

This is an interesting poll but I think the results will be skewed. Your readers most likely have a higher likelihood of visiting downtown Reno on a regular basis than the general popuation. The fact that they visit your website indicates an interest in downtown.

I was downtown yesterday playing in the whitewater park for about an hour. Days are getting warmer or were atleast and the river level is coming up so I should be downtown twice a week in the park. Otherwise I get downtown very little.

Last time I was downtown was in December--which was the last time I was in Reno. I currently do not live in Nevada, but when I was I would visit downtown every couple of weeks.

I am loving to the downtown progress. Im sure all of you are aware that I am looking so forward to the opening of the urban market. Im looknig forward to the time where I open my window and can hear the music playing, the historic reno neon signs glowing and people walking through the urban market. Im sure its only a matter of time untill the ground floor of the riverwalk attracts a new tennant. I would still like to see big box dining and retail downtown also, like a ESPN zone or Dave and Busters and Pottery Barn or Gap etc....A new Hotel casino or two would also be great..

I work on Cal. Ave., so I'm basically downtown every day of the week, and walk down across the river on a regular basis for lunch, etc. I also tend to cruise around downtown with my son and dog (and sometimes my wife with our baby in the bike trailer) on our bikes at least one of the two days every weekend...sunshine permitting. It doesn't ever get old to me, and I can't wait to see more and more retail, etc. arrive to give us more ways to spend time cruising.

Hi Rik! You are correct. Mostly, only people that are interested in downtown visit my site. I guess I am more interested in the frequency of when my site readers visit downtown. You would be surprised how many out-of-towners email me, people who havent lived here since they were kids, who keep up on the changes downtown and elsewhere. I also have significant amounts of traffic from people who discover my site using keywords like Palladio, and Montage and downtown Reno. I also get a lot of tourists visiting my site too, and a LOT of people relocating here from other cities who are interested in keeping their urban lifestyle...I was toying with the idea of posting my search keyword stats, since they are pretty impressive, I think I am going to do it.

EMBRACE your downtown. I live in san Francisco proper and our downtown (Market Street) is getting so run down with crime, homeless, for lease signs everywhere, over inflated real estate prices , and stores that charge $12.oo for a gallon of milk. Reno is a gem, sure the downtown gets some riff raff... but residents who are active in their community call the shots, not the elected leaders. The leaders will go with the majority. I guess you dont know what you have until you lose it. I would move there in a heartbeat if your local job market improved.

I parked on Arlington, went into the Imperial Lounge, ordered a frosty beer, watched the NCAA basketball for a while.

It has been a while for me, but my wife, my daughter and I came down almost every couple of weeks during the friday farmer's markets last year.

Me and my wife moved to the University Ridge area a year and a half ago (from Incline/Tahoe), and while I miss a lot of the Tahoe lifestyle--and walking most places in town, it's been a good fit. We get downtown once or twice a week. Usually we go for a Movie, dinner or breakfast at Pegs. Often we'll take a walk on the river, or otherwise walk around. I'm looking forward to more of what's already started, and hope to make it to more events this summer. I do long for some of the old days when Street Vibrations meant seeing Steppenwolf for free downtown in an ally, at night, drinking beer with a bunch of bikers! Some of my best memories of downtown were when there was less commercial interest, and a more unstructured environment. Thanks for the Amendment 21 blurb a while ago. We've started heading there mid-week for dinner, drinking and pool. I would love to see more reviews or pictures of eating and playing establishments downtown-other than casino's (even though there are some relative gens there too). Thanks for the blog, and the hard work (fun work?) letting us know what's going on! -Tim and Careen

We walk to downtown at least 2 or 3 times a week. We love to walk by the river, catch movies at the Riverside, and have lunch or dinner at one of the nearby restaurants (sometimes in the casinos, sometimes not). Downtown feels alive!

My wife and I come down from the suburban sw once or twice a week. We'd probably be living there by now if the re market hadn't tanked. We love walking along the river and all over the area checking out the progress of the latest projects. It's a very exciting time for the entire area watching as new retail, restaurants, and bars are opened. We also walked around the Sparks Marina a few days ago to get a close up look at how that project is going. That Scheels building is huge! Thank you so much for the the time and effort you put into publishing all this info about Reno. We both check your website frequently for updates.

I work downtown five days a week and am often enjoying the many restaurants, bars, and the riverwalk that downtown has to offer on my free time. Downtown Reno is a beautiful and unique place to be!

Feb. 28, 2008 - Marched along Arlington St. North down the bank from South of California St. and on to 5th and West to join my father to enjoy a scrumptious lunch of pho soup at the Golden Flower. Couldn't have been a nicer late Feb. day for a walk through downtown Reno (otherwise, I'd might have driven my car :( )

I haven't done anything downtown in over a year. The Riverwalk is nice and there are some restaurants that I'd like to try, but parking is just too much of a hassle. I have an aversion to parking garages. I'm probably just lazy, but for me the effort involved is too much to make a trip downtown worthwhile.
