Permits Filed for New Townhomes on West Side of Virginia Street near Plumb Lane

by Mike Van Houten / Mar 6, 2017

A series of building permits have been filed today for an expansion of an existing townhome project west of Virginia Street just south of Plumb Lane. One building is already framed (see photos below) and you can see ground work prepping for the remaining buildings permits were filed for.

The addresses are 2059, 2055, 2053, 2049, 2057, and 2051 South Virginia Street.

The project, at least in the permits, is being called 'Alamo Square.'

Here's a map link to the parcel and surrounding area, and here's a parcel map

And interestingly, here's a tenative map for this project dating back to 2012

Anyone know what the pricing will be, and if they're for sale or rent?

So which neighborhood school gets overcrowded next?

Beck/Swope/Reno. All under capacity right now as developed.

"Inner City" schools of WCSD are all pretty much under capacity right? I'm pretty sure the uproar is over the South Meadows and Spanish Springs Families not wanting to send their children to those dreaded "Inner City" schools. Not that it matters WCSD can't manage a budget and has a $30M shortfall for staff.

I wonder what architectural style they are doing. The townhouses behind them are Victorian and beautiful. That community looks like a mini San Francisco.

The zoned schools for this area do have some available capacity. We'd like to address some of the comments made here, particularly those by H.E. First, overcrowding is not only limited to outlying areas, nor will spending and new schools be limited to more suburban areas -- visit www.WCSDbuilding.com for more information. Second, our budget shortfall is on the operating side, not on the capital side which is about to see an infusion from the passage of WC-1. Capital funds cannot be used, by law, for operating expenses. Third, we are managing the budget in a responsible and timely fashion. It is a projected budget shortfall for the coming fiscal year, not any issue with current funds or payroll. We are taking proactive steps to balance the budget, which includes a public process as well as advocacy at the legislature.

I lived in this area from July 2012 - July 2013. I had one of the Victorian homes on "Alamo Square Way" that used to be the model home for the development. When they started building the newer, smaller, homes in early 2013, I was disappointed. there are only two floor plans, and they lack the architectural details of the homes that were already in place. I'm sure these are going to look just as boring as the homes they built around it a couple of years ago. Don't plan on any nice-looking Victorian-inspired row homes.
