Phase Two Construction Permit for Kings Inn

by Mike Van Houten / Aug 11, 2015

A "Phase 2" construction/renovation permit valued at $5,500,000 is in the review stage in the Reno building permit dept for the Kings Inn; a project named K2 Apartments.

It was mentioned in a prior RAAB meeting that the project was to become high end apartments geared toward millenials.

Interestingly, the August 5 permit in review states "REMODEL OF 94 RESIDENTIAL UNITS INCLUDES ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL UPGRADES; INCLUDES RENOVATION OF AN EXISTING SWIMMING POOL AND EQUIPMENT"

It was back in February when I mentioned the possibilities if the Kings Inn's pool and rooftop deck were restored.

Though no officials plans or renderings have been released yet from Bentar, those plans have most likely been already finalized if this renovation permit is now in the review process.

I'm guessing these plans would be reviewed by the RAAB and city council as well. This is exciting stuff...the transformation of downtown's ugliest eyesore is actually going to happen...soon!

I went by it during HAN and wondered if it was stalled. Good to hear it is not.

I'm wondering if any tax funds are being used. That would be OK but if so some units should be designated "low income" housing. ANY housing project, especially in city center developments, should have a "low income" component. Having a Senior/disabled component as well would be a BIG plus.

The Kings Inn is surrounded by low income housing. They don't need to offer a low income component.
