Midtown...Meet German Fusion. We were fortunate to have been invited into the latest hotspot to come to the rapidly progressing Midtown neighborhood. Don’t let the construction keep you from checking this place out, with 15 German beers on tap including a signature Hofbrau in addition to 5 American beers, no one will leave thirsty. In addition to the beers on tap, you’ll find craft cocktail selections as well as the classics. What was previously a performing arts space has been artfully transformed.
Executive Chef Jim Dallen let us in on the menu and the vision behind it, they traveled to Sacramento and San Francisco german bars and pubs to gather ideas for a menu rich with German tradition mixed with American flavor to create a fusion. Guests will find bratwursts and sausages served on wooden platters, no plates here. Environmentally friendly techniques were installed wherever they could..no plastic straws at the bar either. Other menu staples that are sure to please include duck fat fries and fresh baked pretzels for those just looking for a small bite. For those who are vegan/vegetarian there are items for you as well. Fresh veggie platters to roasted garlic hummus. The price points are very approachable, entry level even. Average prices range from $5 to $15
The kitchen plans to serve until 2am weeknights and weekends with plans to go 24 hours on weekends. The decor meets the flavors, industrial feeling exposed brick meshes with a liquor library behind the bar as the centerpiece. Hightop tables and booths complete the setup with the kitchen set back towards the rear, with seating adjacent to it as well. Restrooms are central.
You can’t miss the action even if you’re walking by thanks to the massive storefront glass that floods the main room with light during the daylight hours.
A special thanks to Ross, the bar manager, for a tour of the bar and a taste of the beers. Brauhaus 701 is planning their soft opening for Friday/Saturday October 5-6 with a grand opening scheduled for the following weekend Friday/Saturday October 12 and 13, just in time for Oktoberfest celebrations.
