Revolution on the River July 13

by Mike Van Houten / Jul 2, 2014

The Powning District will be transformed into a bustling French riverfront villa during Artown in downtown Reno, with an event featuring picnic baskets filled to the brim with locally sourced food and drink, as well as entertainment and a cake-decorating contest celebrating all things French for Bastille Day.

Revolution On The River will debut from noon to 5 p.m. July 13th along the banks of the Truckee River on Riverside Drive.

The event is free to the public and anyone may bring a picnic to enjoy. Participants also may purchase one of 250 picnic baskets, each containing a thoughtfully crafted, locally sourced lunch for two.

The event’s French-themed picnic baskets will feature food and drink from Beaujolais Bistro, Dorinda’s Chocolates, Hub Coffee Roasters, Rounds Bakery, Mix Cupcakes, Wedge Cheese Shop, Common Cider Company and many other local businesses.

Revolution On The River will also feature strolling models in period costume provided by the Great Basin Costume Society. Plein air painters will create artwork along the banks of the river, while a puppeteer entertains families and friends of all ages.

French music and local vendors will be featured at the site, with street closures on Riverside Drive providing a rare opportunity to enjoy the new businesses in the neighborhood.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of picnic baskets will benefit Urban Roots.

Head down to the river July 13 and enjoy this free event! Or better yet, support Urban Roots and purchase one of the picnic baskets.
