Wow ok, when I went downtown for the opening for Spire of Fire, I wasn't expecting an art piece that lit up 3 square city blocks and sounded like a blow torch amplified through loud speakers. That's exactly what the Spire of Fire did. Hundreds of onlookers were bathed in a warm yellow glow most of the night complemented by synchronized fire dancers who, rather than walked around randomly spinning fire as in prior events, performed synchronized routines that were both breathtaking and impressive. The routines were synched with the dance music perfectly. When the Spire of Fire came to life, it illuminated everything from the Palladio to the Courthouse to the Riverside with intense brightness that was difficult to look at directly. It was awesome! When all of the fire bowls exploded at once, you could feel the power and heat a hundred feet away. The photos captured the moment nicely, Take a peek below! The photos were taken by my programmer, night photographer and good friend Jim Freeman.
