Reno Art Walk Showcases Downtown Art

by Mike Van Houten / Apr 28, 2014

The downtown Reno Arts District will be bustling every first Thursday as restaurants, businesses and galleries open their doors for Art Walk Reno. The official launch for Art Walk Reno is May 1, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

See the works of local and regional artists on display in venues within the Arts District, between Liberty Street and Second Street, and Virginia Street and Arlington Avenue. There are approximately 20 stops, including Liberty Fine Arts Gallery, Sierra Arts Gallery, and Metro Gallery inside City Hall. Alternative venues, such as Outsiders Hair and Salon, Noble Pie Parlor, Singer Social Club, and The Neapolitan Gallery inside Ampersand, will be rotating local and regional artists monthly. The University of Reno will also be a strong participant with its fairly new off-campus gallery, ArtSpace, located inside the West Street Market complex.

“Reno is a city building a platform for national and international attention, solely on the strength of its art and culture community,” said Eric Brooks, art walk coordinator. “It is an ongoing movement with support centering from local government and constantly being strengthened from within by small businesses throughout Reno that are showcasing local artists on their walls.”

The walk officially begins at 6 p.m. at Liberty Fine Art Gallery, 100 West Liberty Street. There, you can purchase a ticket, for $10, which includes a glass, raffle ticket and program for the evening. A limited-edition, hand-painted glass is included in the $15 ticket. Each month, someone will walk away with a $200.00 voucher good towards any piece of art shown in the walk. There will be food and drink specials from participating businesses along the way. Each month, one artist will be commissioned for a limited edition, signed and numbered print. This is an affordable opportunity to begin or continue your art collection! This month’s artist is Natasha Stanton, from Sierraville, Calif. They be available at Liberty Fine Art Gallery and Sierra Arts gallery for $40. A portion of all proceeds from Art Walk Reno will be donated to non-profit groups focused on art, education, and community.

Art Walk Reno is part of Art Spot Reno, the main portal for accessing information about what’s happening in Reno's arts scene.
