205 South Sierra Street, when I moved to town, was an 'ok' weekly motel called the 'Executive Inn.' It was better than most weeklies.
Then around 2010/2011, the tower was remodeled, and the 7th floor (top floor) converted to spacious apartments with full kitchens and baths, and rented out at pretty affordable prices. The remaining floors were converted to 'warm shells,' office spaces that would take some interior work, but were not fully gutted shells either.
Even today, I saw an ad recently for one of the apartments for rent for $810 a month, a steal considering you can't even get a weekly motel for that price anymore.
I'm guessing the office space concept didn't really fly, because there's a permit in the works to convert the entire building to 52 apartments.
Here's the permit:
LOFT 205 APARTMENTS
REMODEL. BUILD OUT OF 52 APARTMENTS ON FLOORS 4 THROUGH 7. DEMO, FRAMING, DRYWALL, FINISHES, MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING
It's unknown if the new apartments will be just as affordable, or if, with a name like 'Loft 205' it will be geared toward more expensive housing. Time will tell! Either way, this will be 52 living spaces downtown that will feature full kitchens and baths.
There used to be a rooftop pool on the 4th floor, but it's unknown if that still exists, will be refurbished for the new project, or what.
Exciting stuff!
815 a month is affordable to whom🤔
