Virginia Lake construction update - Edgewater and Glen Manor

by Mike Van Houten / Feb 17, 2015

I took a stroll along the east shore of Virginia Lake to check out the construction happening with the massive 10-acre, $40,000,000 Edgewater at Virginia Lake and Glen Manor. Check out the photos!

According to Northern Nevada Business Weekly, the townhomes and condos are selling from $175,000 to $275,000 and two of the six buildings are sold out.

I'm hearing Glen Manor is selling their new units in the mid $200,000's.

The people buying these, according to developer Silverwing, are young single professionals and couples wishing to downsize.

If are interested in living within a couple miles of downtown and Midtown, and want a brand new place, and can't afford these, then this may be your best bet.

Virginia Lake itself is becoming quite the attraction, with plans to re-energize the lake and significantly improve the dog park. It could easily be debated that Virginia Lake is even more popular than Idlewild on nice days when people are eager to a pleasant stroll outside. Today when I went, I encountered other lake-walkers every ten feet I walked.

Random fun fact: Virginia Lake is 12 feet deep when full, covers 24.5 acres and has a fairly flat bottom. There is an exercise park on the north shore, a large kid's play area on the southwest shore which includes bbq grills and picnic tables. There is a large dog park on the south side of the lake as well (pictured below) that residents in the area are fundraising to improve.

(lots of windows!)

Thanks for the post Mike. Your site is a great public service to Reno. I was excited to hear that the developer at one point wanted to build a restaurant on the lake. Unfortunately I believe that restaurant space was eliminated from the plans. I believe Virginia lake could be a very dynamic place if it had some mixed use property. Reno needs to get more creative with this. Perhaps the parking lot at the north end of the lake could have a better use than stashing a dozen cars?

So Edgewater is ownable townhomes and apartments? Interesting. As for the restaurant I thought that was a package that included rerouting Eastshore Drive to go out wide at the SE corner so they could have waterfront property. I imagine they scrapped it because of the cost of the road, and the inevitable bird problem. It could've made Hitchcock look like a kid's special, LOL. Personally, with the water quality issues its been having, I've been timid to even go for a jog around it (I bit the bullet this Monday), let alone consume a meal around it. I think it would be great though if a balance could be found for everything and everyone. Birds, dogs, homes, people and sandwiches alike. All for its continued use.
