New Project in Northwest Reno

by Mike Van Houten / Feb 17, 2014

Ok well it's not downtown or in MidTown but it's large enough to report on regardless. As you know I occasionally spotlight new developments outside of the Reno core (such as Legends or Summit Sierra Mall.) This sounds like a pretty cool project, and one that should have gone at the former Park Lane Mall site. Am I envious? Eh maybe a little. The northwest 'burbs however really need to get something in the blighted spot where K-Mart formerly was.

The Great Western Marketplace will feature a diverse mixture of more than 300 artisans, retailers, craft and food merchants in the 167,000 sq. ft. former Super-Kmart site in Northwest Reno.  Business-owners have a variety of “studio” spaces to choose from at the Marketplace - ranging in size from 100 - 15,000 sq. ft. Each studio is fully customizable to meet merchants’ individual needs without the stress or cost of managing their own freestanding location. Located off of Summit Ridge Drive, the Marketplace will provide entrepreneurs an opportunity to launch or expand a business, while investing in the local economy.

The site,  purchased in September 2013 by the Reno-based Naumann family, is situated next to I-80. Open Friday thru Sunday, the family-owned development will include café and bar areas, indoor and outdoor seating, and centralized meeting/rest areas. Live entertainment and special events will be featured each weekend at the Marketplace, year-round.

They hope to open Spring 2014.

This looks like such a great place and I recently met a potential vendor, Soozii Cream Cheese, who will be in that space. It looks like it will be kind of like a ferris building type of establishment, but done in a Reno way of course. Is there any updates on when this will be opening?
