Construction Begins for Courtyard Marriott Downtown

by Mike Van Houten / Feb 10, 2015

It begins! Check out a few photos of ground work beginning for the long-delayed Courtyard Marriott downtown across from Reno Aces Ballpark. I'm bummed it will only be four stories tall, but stoked that something is finally being built here. I hope they will utilize the riverfront and build river-facing balconies or windows.

The lot on Second Street across from the Reno Aces Ballpark was formerly home to a weekly motel before Basin Street Properties bought the property and demo'd the structure soon after purchase.

From my perspective the best part of this project is that it includes no new parking. They will use the garage adjacent to the property to satisfy parking requirements Kudos to the developer and the city to push forward development which does not expand parking in a neighborhood which is drowning in too much parking.

I agree, it will work out well having the parking garage next door. Does anyone have any idea what the original intent of building that huge garage was?

Wasn't it formerly Harrah's employee parking?

Yes – Harrah's employee parking & overflow valet parking. I also seem to remember the police department using it for extra departmental vehicles and impounded vehicles, or something random like that.
