I received a notice in my PO box downtown that the post office at its current location will close December 28, and the new downtown post office will open December 31 at 135 North Sierra Street.
I hope the building doesn't stay vacant too long, and that the building can be converted to its new use in a relatively short time period. It's an amazing building and I'll miss my daily trips to it to check my mail.
And of course, the CAVEs all come out of the woodwork on RGJ, complaining about the move. I wonder if any of them have thought about how much it actually costs for the USPS to heat, cool, and maintain such a massive, underutilized facility, and if they are the same people who constantly complain about rising postal rates...
