I really like it, but what do I know? I also liked "West of Center".

"Reno-Tahoe USA... Far from expected" Recovery! Worst unemployment, lowest education, health, and other stats in the nation. Come and see how not to run a state!

Almost as bad as the left from center one

I don't think any slogan would satisfy this community, even if actually was good. I think "Refreshingly Offbeat" would've been better, your thoughts?

Sounds alright. Seems like it could be played from several angles. I kind of liked the "little west of center" one too, but, like Justin said, what do we know.

Seriously? This is the best they could come up with? Why does Reno continue to attach itself to a community 45 minutes away. When I see a Tahoe ad, I don't see them calling it Tahoe-Reno, it's just Lake Tahoe. I do like the last part, but the Reno Tahoe USA sounds thoughtless.

Eh, it seems really generic. Reno is a wacky place, filled with an offbeat art scene and a reputation for being a bit unwholesome. We shouldn't sweep our defining attributes under the rug because the mayor has some weird, prudish idea of what the city should be.

I have no idea what the new slogan means, what a waste of our money. "America's Arts and Adventure Place" says it all for people who know and participate in the area's glory.

I'm from Vancouver, Canada, and I've been coming to Reno as a tourist for 20 years, and I always felt that "Biggest Little City In The World" was the best description of your great city. It has a bit of Vegas, without being Vegas. It has a small town feel, which you only get by exploring around the city. And the people are friendly, and not jaded as they are in other "Casino" towns. For me, you can say whatever you want, but the truth is that you are living in a hidden treasure. I love to see Reno growing up, but bigger ain't always better! Tourism can help and kill a city...I'm from Vancouver...I know all about it...

I think the slogan is a bit generic too, but certainly not offensive. I guess we can live with it. Neonlogo, glad you enjoy it here. My wife and I love Vancouver, Canada. Great Artsy areas and love that Granville island spot! Of course Whistler nearby is a major plus too!

Seriously? 'Far from Expected?' That sucks. I liked 'West of Center' way better.

I think "Still the Biggest" is the best slogan.

It's OK but I thought "West of Center" was a Winner!!!

Better than West of Center, but it implies that whatever you expected was bad, and it's not like that. Like it assumes people think it's a grimy, sleazy, run-down, dirty, small version of Vegas? or it's like Reno 911? It's like going up to a woman and saying, can I have your number, I'm far from what you might expect. They should focus on the positive and sell it. Reno, Sunnyside of the Sierras! Reno-Tahoe, Sun and Snow! Reno, fun in the Sierras. Reno, Jewel of the Sierras. Reno-Tahoe, the Biggest Little Adventure. The consultants seem to be lost and being too opaque. Also, most people I know expect to see casinos, hookers, methheads, and trailer parks in Reno, and I don't think they'd be very far from what they expect. It should be MORE than expected if anything.

I like the Reno Tahoe USA tagline. It sells the area and that's what ultimately counts. You will never satisfy everyone no matter how hard you try but I think you the words Reno and Tahoe in the tagline help to sell the area/region. I suspect that Sparks will not be part of the RSCVA forever. You need to make some reference to the area/region in the tagline so that outsiders instantly know what area/region you are referring to. And, the "far from expected" add-on portion of the tagline can be changed when time calls for it but can always use Reno Tahoe USA.

Oh Im so glad that this talented campaign firm the city hired to come up with this new slogan informed me that tahoe and reno is in the USA. I guess they think people don't know where Reno is. WHAT A WASTE!!!! How much did this cost us tax payers! If these lame ideas continue, maybe I should forget where Tahoe and Reno is.

"little west of center" actually appealed to me. Reno is a great gem on its own, without the shadow of Tahoe. Funky, friendly, artsy, outdoorsy, major university...these were all major components in my move from Southern California.

Yeah! Why can't they just stick with the Biggest Little City? Everyone seems to love it.

Considering what the RSCVA wants to promote, and given the hidden gems that are found here, I thing something like "Reno - More than meets the eye" is a good fit. It says that we are more than just a gambling town and also encourages some sort of intrigue. What do you think?

From the comments posted here, I liked "Refreshingly Offbeat" and "More than meets the eye". Why didn't the RSCVA just ask the locals to come up with something instead of hiring a company from California. Is that all they came up with? My all time favorite for a city is still "Keep Portland Weird".

recently located from east coast. in driving around i notice that reno, a city of 200k or so...with no other large metro areas nearby gets a pertty good share of nationaly known artists performing here on a regular basis....a university with severAl post-grad degrees other than music or philosophy and an inmpressive skyline. i think keeping with the biggeSt little meme is pretty good. reno...a little bit bigger.

area where i am from (triangle nc) has no innate recreation except for appalachian mts 4 hours west and sandy beaches 3 hours east. other than that it just has 3 major universities within 15 miles of each other. about 60k students maybe? many tourism ads speak of roadtrips or weekenders to these recreation spots hours away.

Reno is so ghetto it needs "tahoe" it the slogan... sad.
Posted by: sthomper - 1/8/2010 2:06:20 AM
i dont know if its sad. i thought renos slogan was biggest little city..." i didnt notice if any other slogans included tahoe. if in descriptions or brochures its called reno-tahoe that isnt sad. my previous residence was called raleigh-durham. durham (duke univ.)for awhile had a significantly higher murder rate than did raleigh (state capital,NC) and many didnt like the assiciation but most have probably benefited.
