Reno Food Bites Highlights Our Best Local Food

Sometimes it takes a little motivation to try out a new restaurant, either because it might be off your beaten path, or you just didn't think of it, or maybe they are usually a little out of your price range. I have a foodie event for you this week; the perfect excuse to step out of your box and try something new and different.

Reno’s inaugural restaurant week event, Reno Bites, IS HERE! Reno Food Bites celebrate locally-owned restaurants and their cuisine with seven days of deals and events. From food trucks to fine dining, more than a dozen eateries throughout Reno offer prix fixe menus, signature items and events to entice diners into a week of culinary exploration. Taking place from Monday, October 22 through Sunday October 28 citywide, this weeklong foodie fest is the first of its kind in Reno, whose burgeoning culinary scene is packed with a diverse array of restaurateurs and chefs. Reno Bites was created to encourage food lovers to patronize the wide range of locally-owned dining establishments and support small businesses within their own community. Event visionary and coordinator Clint Jolly states, "I see a strong community of restaurants in all of the great foodie cities that I visit. It's time we came together in Reno to show off our talented culinarians to the world. Great things will come from smart collaboration and joint efforts of local restaurants."

Check out the list of restaurants below! This week is all about the restaurants, and the wide swath of locally-owned choices we have within Reno, in downtown, Midtown and yes, even out in the 'burbs! You can find great deals on lunches, dinners, and special Pre-fix menus.

I hope this event only gains momentum. The organizers should take a look at Denver's food week. There's a lot of room to add to the current week, but it looks like they're on the right track!

  • October 23, 2012 - 12:37:51 PM

Denver also has a Taste of Coloado food festival where restaurants set up booths in a park, which I was sort of hoping this was but sounds more like just a week of prix fixe for participating restaurants. Perhaps the food walk should have been scheduled at the same time to make this a bigger festival or food truck Friday. Maybe Reno can create Food Week involving Reno Food Bites, Dine the District, Citicenter Food Trucks, and perhaps a food festival with booths at Wingfield, some wine and food festival at the Reno Ballroom, involve UNR's international food event, maybe convince the Basque or Greeks to have their festival that week, etc. Make it a huge week of food like Artown or maybe extend it to a month and include the Sparks Rib Cookoff. Perhaps September could be Reno Food Month.

Oh wow Blake, those are great ideas. What I liked about Denver's restaurant week is they use their altitude (5,280) and make a package that includes a multi-course dinner for two at any of the participating restaurants for $52.80. I feel like $45 would be a reasonable asking for our reno restaurants.
