Knitting Factory coming to downtown Reno
8/7/09 - No, it's not a special club where knitting enthusiasts gather and meet for some wild knitting sessions. It's going to be a new concert venue in downtown Reno. http://bo.knittingfactory.com/index.php Here is a link for one in Boise so you get an idea.
The BEST part is this is going in a downtown location that has been shuttered and dark for over 5 YEARS. It's going in the Rocky's Casino space on Virginia Street between 2nd and Commercial Row. I spoke with the guy responsible for closing the deal and getting the lease signed, and he mentioned between the tenants and building owners, they plan on investing a lot of money in cleaning up and fixing up the space. Nice!
The maixmum occupancy should be around 1,200, and feature 2 floors.

Wow they've got guts to put it right there, but I think it will work out fine. That block sorely needs renovations as we all know.

This is cool, I've actually been to the one in Boise, and it's a great venue. Let's hope they get some good acts. Thanks for the updates.

Knit 1 pearl 2; Does the city have any new parking planned to facilitate yet another mass gathering venue?

There was a crew working in there when I walked by today. The guys said they didn't know what the projected opening date was. Hey, Mike -- there was also a crew working in the closed bar on the southwest corner of Sierra and West Second, next to West Second Street Bar. Do you know what's up there?

The corner spot next to the West 2nd St. Bar is supposedly going to be part of West 2nd...a food addition...but the owners of that place can't really seem to get it together.

I most certainly won't let my kids attend any downtown Reno venue with all the crimes going on around the area, like shootings and prostitution.

concerned mother: Prostitution is legal in this state, and no one gets shot that doesn't deserve it. Keep the kids at home, I don't go out to put up with kids anyway.

If I had kids, I think I'd feel safer if they were to visit downtown Reno than some other places. San Francisco and Los Angeles come to mind. Now if only the homeless shelter could be moved away from what's becoming Reno's entertainment district...
