The Hub Coffee Shop set for Friday Morning
You might have seen from my tweets that a former run-down garage on Cheney Street between Center and Virginia Street was transforming into a new coffee shop. Well, here it is! With a huge emphasis on coffee and bikes, hence the name 'The Hub.
The Hub Coffee Co. is the dream of father and son caffeine addicts Mark and Joey Trujillo, a chance to introduce the biggest little city of Reno, Nevada to the third wave of coffee, the artisan and culinary side of an agricultural product coffee arabica that is often thought of as a simple commodity. At the hub they put love and love and more love into our work as baristas, professionals in and representatives of the art of coffee at the end of a long production chain, on which many hard-working individuals in many different areas of the world rely for their well-being and the well-being of their families. They invite you to come in and truly experience coffee the way it was meant to be experienced, as a product of tradition and the culinary arts.
They will be having a soft opening in the morning from 6 a.m. to about 12 ish p.m. Same goes on Saturday.
So what about the coffee? 'The Machine', a monster size La Marzocco GB5, will be serving up Barefoot Coffee. Barefoot Coffee is known for their strong ongoing relationships with hundreds of rural coffee farmers and coffee-farming cooperatives in countries like Guatemala, Brazil, El Salvador, India, and Ethiopia. Purchasing coffees directly from farmers at often much higher prices than the minimum guaranteed by Fair Trade certification, Barefoot supports and promotes a way of doing business that will ensure long-standing relationships filled with trust between the producer and the buyer and a product that is not just of high quality in culinary terms, but of high quality in sustainable terms: ethically, environmentally, and economically.
The Hub's signature espresso is named 'The Boss' and I encourage everyone to go down Friday and Saturday morning and test out the biggest little coffee shop in town!

The Tour de Nez races went off without any trouble Friday night (except for the barriers being put in an hour late!). There were lots of people watching, and most people didn't know it was going to take place (some court employees stuck temporarily in justice buildings)! I was glad to help out with it as a crowd supervisor. They had a Men's Master race, Womens pro race, clunker bike race, kids race, Hand crank race (they were amazing to watch!), and fianblly the Men's Pro finished on a dark course lit up by some floodlights!
